Gladiator of the Month: Mary Beth McGraw
A little background on Mary Beth, she has been training with me for about three months. She always comes in with a positive attitude and a willingness to get after. She is always asking “what’s next?” pushing herself the whole hour. She only comes to me one time a week so the rest of the week she does what I program for her. Her dedication to her health and fitness while overcoming any physical obstacles that come her way is very admirable and that is why she is May’s Gladiator of the Month.
How did you feel before you started training?
Before I started training I felt bloated, and tired. Course, that was right after the holidays. I began in January so i had great motivation.
Why did you decide to start training?
I have always exercised in some form, so, deciding to get started again was easy. The reason I ended up at your gym was my pact/promise made with my friend- we met halfway between our homes -your gym- with a vow to participate in the PUMP class twice weekly.
How has your life changed since you started training?
The JumpStart trial changed a life long belief that a “trainer” couldn’t really make any difference in my fitness. I truly like having someone to set my workout schedule- and I simply complete it- without causing myself to be overly tired.
Cory, you have a great demeanor as a trainer, devoid of any judgement. you portray a sensible rate of improvement with consistent work out routines. I could tell I was feeling fitter without having any extremely “fatigued” days.
I FEEL fit, I have endurance during the day, I eat better so I find I am not as hungry as often. My lifestyle has changed in my eating schedule. I actually pack food to take along, so I will eat more frequently- and have good food to eat.
What are some things you had to give up to get you where you are today?
I have given up chips, which are my biggest vice, and learned to eat almonds- which i never ate. In the process of working with a trainer, I have improved my shoulders so that I can accomplish some shoulder exercises. I have improved my breathing technique. and made more aware of my body mechanics.I want to continue to build and maintain my strength, and remain consistent in my diet.
